Lying across the coastal road from one of the island's best beaches, Grande-Anse, Habitation Grande Anse is an assemblage of bungalows and studio apartments, each with natural-grained wood trim, evocative of a Mediterranean village. Studios and bungalows have kitchenettes, and all units -- even the conventional bedrooms -- contain rattan furniture, white walls, and a simple, summery decor that's well suited to life close to the beach. All the accommodations have small private bathrooms with showers. Don't expect too many activities here -- the focus is on sunbathing surrounded by the tropical landscaping beside the beach. The on-site restaurant is, in theory, open for breakfast and dinner, but because the hotel does not have a full-time chef and because business is often slow, it may not be running when you visit. To be on the safe side, rent one of the units with a private kitchenette.
